‘E-Boy,’ Down on its Last Two Weeks

ABS-CBN’s top-rating Primetime Bida family drama series “E-Boy” has truly captured everybody’s heart as it keeps TV viewers thrilled with the exciting adventures of its lead character E-Boy played by Bugoy Cariño.

Since it started airing on January 2012, “E-Boy” got everybody hooked not only because of the groundbreaking computer animation effects used on the series, but also because of the values and lessons that E-Boy (Bugoy) and Miyo (Deydey Amansec) imparted the whole family every night on primetime TV.

Meanwhile, as “E-Boy” goes down on its last two weeks, the plot continues to thicken with the revelation of the new robot that Gabriel (Ariel Rivera) had created. Is the new robot going to be a friend or a foe? Will Gabriel’s family ever be complete with Miguel’s (Jomari Yllana) persistence to win Ria’s (Agot Isidro) heart? Can E-Boy and Miyo successfully save their Papa Gabriel?

“E-Boy” is a part of ABS-CBN’s “Bida Best Kid” campaign launched recently that aims to empower children by encouraging them to become who they want to be and the best that they can be. It’s Earth Hour 24/7 at the Kapuso Network

It’s Earth Hour 24/7 at the Kapuso Network

Tonight, between 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, the islands of the Philippines are set to go dark – all in the name of saving energy and keeping the planet green.

This, in a nutshell, is what Earth Hour is all about.

Every year, GMA Network aligns with WWF Philippines to help celebrate this global event. The lights of the Network’s headquarters in Quezon City go off during the annual Switch Off event. In 2011, GMA 7 had an expanded participation, so to speak, as its originating stations in various provinces also had their lights turned off for 60 minutes in commemoration of Earth Hour.

GMA’s commitment to be a green corporate citizen extends beyond its Earth Hour activities. In fact, it can be said that efficiently utilizing energy is a way of life in the Kapuso Network. Atty Felipe L Gozon, GMA Network Chairman and CEO, says that energy conservation is both a sound business decision and a corporate responsibility. “We implement activities and strategies to save energy and ensure cost efficiency – which is the goal of business organizations, especially those that are heavy power users, like a broadcast station. But more than that, we also want to do our share in nurturing a healthy planet because that is the right thing to do,” emphasizes Gozon.

In 2011, the Kapuso Network was even awarded the EcoBonus Award by Switch Asia under its Green Philippines Islands of Sustainability (GPIoS).

GMA Network’s energy conservation efforts have resulted in P1 million savings in electricity consumption. The Network’s specific efforts in relation to energy conservation include installation of Variable Speed drives for motors and pumps; replacement of halogen bulbs with LED lamps; replacement of mercury vapour lamps with CFL (compact flourescent lamps); replacement of 2X18 watts FL fixtures with 1X18 watts; installation of energy saving devices; displaying of energy saving reminder stickers; and, installation of timers for facade lights and spotlights.

GMA’s CSR activities focusing on the environment are all under the platform Kapuso ng Kalikasan.

Cinema One Brings Award-Winning ‘Ang Babae sa Septic Tank’ to Boracay

Cinema One Brings Award-Winning ‘Ang Babae sa Septic Tank’ to Boracay

In the tradition of bringing blockbuster films to the country’s summer party capital, no. 1 cable channel Cinema One proudly holds “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank” screening in White House Beach Resort, Station 1, Boracay on March 31 (Saturday), 6p.m.

The movie creatively chronicles a day in the life of three ambitious, passionate but misguided filmmakers who’s seeking for exposure in international filmfests. Then, they get Eugene Domingo as their lead actress to do poverty porn. More than its box office success, film’s concept has undoubtedly touched Filipinos’ humor.

The lead star of “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank” Eugene recently took home the coveted People’s Choice award in the 6th Asian Film Awards held in Hongkong.

Prior to this victory, the movie was nominated in the 42nd Berlin International Film Festival for Best First Feature and Cinema Fairbindet awards, as well as in Vancouver International Film Festival for the Dragons & Tigers Award for Young Cinema.

The film has also been invited to some international filmfests such as the Hawaii International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, Udine Far East Film Festival and Tokyo International Film Festival.

“Ang Babae Sa Septic” also received good reviews from some renowned film critics. In a review by Asia News Network’s Yasminka Lee she said “Ang Babae is brilliant because it is a commentary on this obsession for poverty porn by being humorous and thought-provoking at the same time.”

The event will be hosted by the hilarious John Lapuz and talented Cai Cortez. Beachgoers of all ages will definitely enjoy as it also offers fun summer games and sizzling entertainment by fire dancers and the Patikeros.

Gracing the beach and booze event are celebrity beach hotties Jake Cuenca and Megan Young with the equally hot live performance of rock sensation Callalily, whose vocalist is “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank” lead actor Kean Cipriano, and party music from DJ Mars Miranda.

Cinema One is available on SkyCable Gold, SkyCable Silver and other quality cable operators nationwide. For more information logon to http://www.facebook.com/Cinema1channel.

Katrina Halili Can Now Sigh in Relief: "Yes, I'm the father!" - Kris Lawrence

Katrina Halili Can Now Sigh in Relief: "Yes, I'm the father!" - Kris Lawrence

In a joint exclusive interview with Funfare and Startalk last week, Katrina Halili confirmed that she is three months pregnant (due to give birth in September) and named her boyfriend, Fil-Am singer Kris Lawrence, as the father.

Kris, who belongs to Arnold Vegafria’s stable of talents, has remained mum, begging off from reacting to the Funfare/Startalk scoop - until today, that is.

In an exclusive interview with Funfare, Kris admitted that, yes, Katrina was right.

I’m the father of the baby,” said Kris, “and I’m ready and willing to support Katrina and our baby.

Although Katrina’s pregnancy was “not planned,” Kris echoed Katrina’s reaction when she learned about “the good news” last February.

Sobrang happy,” said Kris who also confirmed that he and Katrina have been going steady since 2008 but broke up for a while last year. “She said she wanted to concentrate on her career and I let her. Soon, we got back together again.”

Asked if he’s ready to be a father, Kris, who at 28 is two years Katrina’s senior, said, “Yes, I am. I know how to change diapers and prepare the feeding bottles because I’ve done that to help my relatives and friends babysit back in the States.”

The sweethearts met in 2008 during Katrina’s US concert tour in which Kris, who had just won the ABS-CBN talent search Star in a Million, was a guest performer.

We clicked at once,” recalled Kris who never left Katrina during the “hidden video” crisis (she lost the court case, sigh!!!). “I’ve met her family and she has met my family. I guess we know each other very well.”

Like Katrina, Kris said that they haven’t really discussed marriage yet.

It’s something that shouldn’t be rushed,” Kris explained. “As of now, we’re focusing on Katrina’s condition. We make sure that she’s safe.”

In the Startalk/Funfare interview, Katrina mentioned what her father had told her — “Just because ‘something like that happened’ doesn’t mean that you have to rush into marriage.

As long as she can, Katrina will remain in the cast of the GMA soap My Beloved in which she plays kontrabida, co-starring with Dingdong Dantes and his girlfriend Marian Rivera. Since her tummy is fast growing, she may have to wear less sexy clothes but promised to get back in shape after giving birth. Katrina was twice voted Sexiest Woman in the World by FHM magazine.

When My Beloved ends, Katrina said she will stay with her folks in Palawan and return to Manila in time to give birth — “The natural way,” she said.

In a light vein, Kris said, “My family is excited about the baby because it’s their first apo. My mom has been teasing me when I would give her an apo, so here it comes.”

Kris has a younger sister. They were both born and raised in California.

I’m looking forward to the day when my child is big enough to play football with me,” he added.

Since he shares a house with good friend and relative Jay-R, also a US-bred singer, near where Katrina lives in New Manila, Quezon City, Kris can easily check on Katrina regularly. He’s on alert for whatever she needs, at her beck and call.

Asked if they’re planning to live together as a couple, Kris said, “No. Anyway, magkalapit lang naman ang tirahan namin.”

Robinson's Galleria Robbery and Shooting Incident: 1 Dead, 6 Hurt

Robinson's Galleria Robbery and Shooting Incident: 1 Dead, 6 Hurt

Suspected riding-in-tandem robbers conducted a daring daylight robbery inside Robinsons Galleria Mall in Ortigas Thursday morning, killing a security guard and injuring 6 others.

Robinsons Land corporate PR manager Roseann Coscolluela-Villegas said the mall was still closed when 2 suspects "forcibly entered the mall" before 10 am and went to the mall’s first level to rob Security Bank roving tellers who were delivering money.

"At least 2 armed men tried to rob the roving tellers of Security Bank in Quezon City at around 10 a.m. today. Police authorities responded to the alarm, which is part of the mall security setup, within 15 minutes," an official statement from Robinsons Land said.

Villegas said 2 security guards were injured during a shootout between the suspects and mall security. One of the guards, identified as Rodrigo Villa, later died while receiving treatment at Medical City in Pasig.

The other guard was Roderick Reloso. He remains in critical condition at the said hospital.

Two Security Bank tellers, Vincent Mangatura and Lea del Mundo, were injured after the suspects threw a grenade at them. Three mall goers -- Paul Adrian, Johanssen Dionisia and Rabe Jeremy -- were also injured.

The robbers fled onboard a motorcycle, carrying an undetermined amount of cash.

The spokeswoman said the mall was closed for a few hours after the incident and has since reopened to the public.

A witness, identified only as "Raymart", said he was eating at Chowking Restaurant when the suspects wearing yellow green uniforms went inside the mall Thursday morning and started shooting at guards near the Robinsons Bank.

"Hindi siya normal na putukan. Medyo nagtagal. Malapit lang sa shopping area yung putukan," he told Mornings@ANC.

Nagstart ang putukan hindi sa labas, sa loob talaga,” he added.

He said he dropped to the floor when he heard rapid gunfire. He said the shooting lasted a long time, followed by an explosion.

I don’t know how [the robbers] got in the mall. They were already inside the mall when the shooting started,” he said.

He said people hid inside the fast food kitchen for 30-45 minutes. He said they were only allowed to leave the kitchen after they were given the all-clear.

DZMM correspondent Arnell Ozaeta said at least one grenade did not explode and could be seen outside the mall. Dela Vega said the grenade’s pin was already removed when the police discovered it.

A pistol magazine was also found at the crime scene.

The explosion and gunfire caused panic as people fled the area. All stores inside the mall have been closed and people have been prevented from entering.

The Metro Manila Development Authority posted an advisory in its Twitter account, warning motorists of heavy traffic near the Galleria entrance on the northbound lane of EDSA.

He made a special visit to the Visayan Forum Foundation and learns about their campaign, which has saved over 70,000 girls from human trafficking worldwide since 2001. He is moved by the stories of many of the girls rescued as enslaved children before being saved by the shelter, and is given hope by their brave plight as survivors to speak out and try to put an end to human exploitation.

Jason Mraz accounts his emotional journey during his presentation, after realizing that millions of people around the world are still victims of modern day slavery. With this newfound awareness, Jason addresses to 25,000 fans at the MTV EXIT Live in Manila concert using his musical gift to find ways to further spread the awareness of this critical social issue worldwide.

In Asia-Pacific, MTV EXIT is produced in partnership with USAID, AusAID and ASEAN.

Ashton Kutcher - Rihanna Affair Denied

Rihanna has addressed recent rumors of a possible romance between her and Ashton Kutcher, saying she is "happy" and "single."

The website TMZ had on March 21 posted photos of a vehicle stopped by what was described as the "Two and a Half Men" actor's "swanky L.A. house." The outlet said Rihanna was inside the SUV and that she didn't leave the home until "roughly 4 a.m." The post was later removed. Kutcher, who split from wife Demi Moore last year, has not commented.

A reporter for the UK TV station ITN asked Rihanna at a recent press conference: "Things are clearly going brilliantly in your career. I just wondered if you are as happy in your private life and will we be seeing a certain Mr. Ashton Kutcher perhaps making a trip over here?"

"How disappointing was that question?" Rihanna replied, as seen in a video posted on Metro UK's website on Wednesday, March 28. "I'm happy and I'm single, if that's what you're really asking."

The press conference was aimed at promoting the movie "Battleship," which marks Rihanna's movie debut. The film also stars Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker and Taylor Kitsch. The film is based on the classic game by Hasbro. Rihanna plays Raikes, a weapons specialist in the sci-fi thriller, which is set for release on May 18. Rihanna previously dated fellow R&B star Chris Brown. Hepleaded guilty to attacking Rihanna in February 2009 and was ordered to complete domestic violence courses and was put on probation.

The two appear to have put the incident behind them, as they collaborated on two records recently. Rihanna said on Ryan Seacrest's his KIIS-FM radio show: "One for my fans. One for his fans, and that way our fans can come together," Rihanna said. "There shouldn't be a divide. You know? It's music, and it's innocent."
